Abstract

Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic cholestatic liver disease associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Its pathogenesis remains poorly understood, and that lack of understanding in part explains the lack of proven therapy able to modify the disease progression. Liver transplantation remains the only life-extending option for these patients. PSC is currently one of the most common indications for liver transplantation in the United States.
