Abstract

The SCIELAB color difference metric has been introduced by Zhang and Wandell as an improvement of the CIELAB metric for predicting perceptual differences among color images. Although SCIELAB-based image quality models have been proposed for predicting image compression distortions, Zhang and Wandell indicated that SCIELAB performs poorly when predicting JPEG-DCT compressed image distortions. This paper presents an algorithm for predicting the quality for JPEG-DCT compressed color images based on the SCIELAB metric distribution. Results are presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
