Abstract
This paper is divided into four parts. The first identifies and describes four constitutive elements of postcolonial science and technology studies (PSTS); the second offers one specific genealogy for PSTS, linking literatures concerned with science, technology and medicine in India, China, and South America; the third unpacks some of the limits imposed by previous analyses which have unwittingly reinforced the binary between 'West and Rest' that postcolonial science studies seeks to overcome; the fourth makes the case for unequal encounters as fertile sources of theorization, noting especially the value of (properly theorized) ambivalences and hybridities.
