Abstract
The permanent dipole moment of yttrium dicarbide was determined using optical stark measurements. The output of a free jet supersonic expansion, containing the reactive products of an ablated yttrium metal rod in the presence of a CH4/argon mixture was used to produce the molecular beam sample. The observed Stark pattern is in conformity with the quantum number assignment of the optical spectrum.
