Composite materials constitute of tens-of-nanometer-sized particles possess fascinating electromagnetic properties. With the miniaturization of electronic components, these materials will become more important in various applications. In these composites, fractal structures are very prevalent. The present discussion emphasises that optical processes in nanostructured fractal composites are strongly enhanced. These enhancements occur as a result of the localization of dipolar eigenmodes in subwave-length areas.
