Abstract

Orderings which preserve some properties (especially adjacency properties) of two-dimensional space are of theoretical interest, especially in relation to computational geometry. They also will be of considerable utility in geographic information systems, since current computer architectures are predominantly sequential processors. This paper describes a number of ordering of 2-D space, and presents a number of objective functions for evaluating them. Tesseral addressing systems often constitute good orderings of 2-D space.-from Authors
