Abstract

Phoenix is the fastest growing metropolitan area in North America. Urbanization is affecting the local weather patterns in this desert area. The most obvious change is the worsening smog situation. The development of an urban heat island has led to an increase in temperature, especially in the hot summer months. Weather stress, associated with rising temperature and not humidity, is increasing, especially at night. -D.G.Tout
