Abstract

We show that excited baryons in large-[Formula presented] QCD form multiplets, within which masses are first split at [Formula presented]. The dominant couplings of resonances to various mesons are highly constrained: The [Formula presented] decays at leading [Formula presented] order exclusively to [Formula presented] rather than [Formula presented], and vice versa for the [Formula presented]. This multiplet structure is reproduced by a simple large-[Formula presented] quark model, well studied in the literature, that describes resonances as single-quark excitations.
