Abstract
This paper proposes a new easy to use aging model for 15kV Cross linked Polyethylene (XLPE) insulated distribution cable particularly for desert conditions. The model has been designed based on laboratory experiments and real-time conditions of cable insulation. Two parameters, namely area of FTIR spectrum (certain wave number group) and electrical breakdown strength using needle plane geometry are used. The model is validated with the help of multiple field aged samples. The difference in sensitivity of identified parameters for different age complements each other and gives rough estimate of remaining life of the cable.
