Abstract

More than 40 percent of an organization’s total carbon footprint relates to its procurement. This means that addressing climate change, environmental and social impacts will require a robust sustainable procurement approach. Yet procurement is often overlooked as an impactful sustainability strategy. We address this issue by discussing the opportunity that sustainable procurement presents, to mitigate global sustainability impacts. We present an overview of the current practice and research landscape together with future opportunities for both, while making the case for leveraging procurement to build a sustainable future.
