Abstract
V-20Ti alloys have been oxidized in-situ in the ORNL HVEM at temperatures from 300-600 degree C, and at an oxygen pressure of 3 multiplied by 10** minus **5 torr. Results show the initial formation of a fine tweed structure with the associated diffraction pattern characterized by short, well defined streaks through the matrix reflections due to 110 direction rel rods. At 400-600 degree C, this tweed structure is followed by a transformation to a bct structure with a c/a ratio of approx. 1. 2. Surface oxide was formed in the 400-600 degree C range and was identified as V//2O//3(R3c), but containing some titanium. No evidence for long period superlattices such as occur in the oxidation of vanadium was found.
