Abstract
The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) offers through its Summer Schools Sub-Committee (SSSC), a funding program to support Summer Schools (SSs) held to transfer knowledge of CI (computational intelligence). This funding program helps students to attend such schools, reimburses speakers, and organizes the school. Travel Scholarships (TS) and Teaching Awards (TA) are the two major parts of this funding program. Each supports a limited number of students and speakers. During 2009, based on a new SSs policy and in coordination with most summer schools' organizers, the SSSC provided limited funding to three SSs held at three different geographical locations around the world. The SSSC is aiming to develop a set of summer schools through a systematic approach, taking into consideration the factors, such as geographical distribution, topic distribution within the strategic CIS areas and the quality of the organizing committee.
