Identification of budding yeast using a fiber-optic imaging bundle

The use of fibre-optic imaging bundle to identify single yeast cells was described. The system classified the cell as budding or not budding a daughter cell. It was integrated into a microfluidic system to automate yeast pedigree analysis. The device hold a single yeast cell in place and deliver each bud to a specified location an agar plate. The image analysis was required to detect trapped mother cell, budding mother cell and budding event. The fibre-optic imaging bundles provided dense packing alternative for continuous observation of all budding events in parallel.
