Abstract

This chapter describes group work with survivors of sex trafficking, offering insights into effective intervention strategies. Focused on group structure and dynamics, the chapter explores the complex interplay of past and present trauma, anger, aggression, grief, loss, trust, and intimacy among survivors. Emphasizing practice principles, the authors highlight the significance of education, mutual aid, shame reduction, and cultivating a culture of safety within the group setting. Drawing from a trauma-informed perspective, the intervention section outlines methods to address ambivalence about change while maintaining flexibility in adapting to individual needs. Notably, the inclusion of survivors in group facilitation plays a pivotal role in promoting empowerment and healing. The chapter concludes by examining the crucial stages of termination and evaluation, underscoring the value of comprehensive, survivor-centric assessment for sustained recovery and growth.
