Extended Abstract: Bridging the Academy and the Workplace: Industry Practitioner Perceptions of Engineering Communication Skills

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

This project reports on two surveys of industry practitioners regarding engineering communication. Participants were connected to the engineering program on our campus: advisory board members (survey 1) and engineering capstone mentors (survey 2). The surveys focused on the communication demands and priorities of the engineering workplace, with particular attention to the communication work of junior engineers; capstone mentors also provided their perceptions of the communication abilities of engineering capstone students. The survey data extend our understanding of industry communication needs and highlight curricular areas that may need more attention.
