Abstract
In this paper an attempt is made to identify the various economic components of transporting solid wastes. A methodology for justifying the construction of transfer stations is suggested, and the impacts of population growth and distance to landfill on the economics of transfer stations are evaluated. The analysis concludes that the location of the transfer station with respect to the waste generators and the landfill has a direct and significant impact on the economic analysis and a detailed approach to the problem is strongly recommended. Finally, it was observed that should the population of generators increase unexpectedly, the cost saving would increase.
