Abstract
A significant proportion of American children cope with parental divorce every year, raising national concern over its consequences for their adjustment. Understanding the effects of parental divorce on children requires an understanding of the stressors associated with divorce, the relation between divorce and children's mental health, and the factors that may serve to increase or decrease the stressfulness of this family transition for children. © 2007
