Abstract
The directional responses of cylindrical hot film and hot wire sensors are determined by two effects: sensitivity of the heat transfer to axial flow along the sensor, as embodied in Hinze's (1959) relationship, and aerodynamic disturbances created by the prongs and the probe shaft. The former determines primarily the yaw response while the latter determines pitch response. A previously developed model for the response of single, normal sensor probes is generalized to the case of slant sensors, and a general form for the slant sensor response equation is derived. The results are applied to X-sensor probes.
