Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to define the problems of maintaining chemical integrity of the electrode-insulator walls in a coal-fired MHD system. The basic requirements for high temperature electrodes are defined and six candidate materials: (LaSr)CrO//3, SiC, ZrO//2( plus CeO//2), Mo, graphite, ZrB//2( plus SiC) which all have adequate high temperature electronic characteristics are considered.
