Abstract

A new occurrence of a near end-member di,dioctahedral Al-chlorite, consisting of two dioctahedral layers, is described as a hydration reaction product of andalusite from pegmatite at Szabo Bluff, Scott Glacier, Antarctica. Analysis of the chlorite gave SiO₂ 32.23, Al₂O₃ 53.06, Fe₂O₃ 1.06, H₂O 13.65, = 100.00, leading to the formula Al_4.32Fe_0.07(Si_2.83Al_1.17)O₁₀(OH)₈, i.e. donbassite.-R.A.H.
