N1 - Funding Information: K. Selçuk Candan is an associate professor at the School of Computing and Informatics (Department of Computer Science and Engineering) at the Arizona State University. He joined the department in August 1997, after receiving his Ph.D. from the Computer Science Department at the University of Maryland at College Park. Currently, he is serving as an associate director for the Arts, Media, and Engineering program at ASU and as a founding member for the Center for the Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing. Since 1997, he has also been serving as a visiting research scientist at the NEC Laboratories, America. Prof. Candan’s primary research interest is in the area of management of non-traditional and imprecise (such as multimedia, web, and scientific) data on heterogeneous platforms. His various research projects in this domain are funded by a diverse set of sources, including the National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and DES/RSA (Rehabilitation Services Administration). He has published over 100 articles and many book chapters. He has also authored nine patents. Prof. Candan is an editorial board member of one of the most respected database journals, the Very Large Databases journal. He is also in the editorial board of the ACM Digital Symposium Collection and a steering committee member for the ACM Multimedia Information Retrieval workshop. He has also served in the organization and program committees of various conferences. In 2006, he served as an organization committee member for SIGMOD’06, the flagship database conference of the ACM and one of the best conferences in the area of management of data. He is currently serving as a PC Chair for another leading, flagship conference of the ACM, this time focusing on multimedia research (SIGMM’08). He is also a founding organizing committee member of the First International Conference on Ambient Media and Systems (Ambi-sys ’08), a new conference focusing on the challenges associated with ubiquitous multimedia. Funding Information: Ben Liang received honors simultaneous B.Sc. (valedictorian) and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York, in 1997 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with computer science minor from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, USA in 2001. In the 2001–2002 academic year, he was a visiting lecturer and post-doctoral research associate at Cornell University. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto in 2002, where he is now an Associate Professor. His current research interests are in mobile networking and multimedia systems. He won an Intel Foundation Graduate Fellowship in 2000 toward the completion of his Ph.D. dissertation and an Early Researcher Award given by the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation in 2007. He was a co-author of the Best Paper Award at the IFIP Networking conference in 2005 and the Runner-up Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Quality of Service in Heterogeneous Wired/Wireless Networks in 2006. He is an editor for the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and an associate editor for the Wiley Security and Communication Networks journal. He serves on the organizational and technical committees of a number of conferences each year. He is a senior member of IEEE and a member of ACM and Tau Beta Pi. Funding Information: Abdulmotaleb El Saddik, Professor and University Research, SITE, University of Ottawa and recipient of the Friedrich Wilhelm–Bessel Research Award from Germany’s Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2007) the Premier’s Research Excellence Award (PREA 2004), and the National Capital Institute of Telecommunications New Professorship Incentive Award (2004). He is the director of the Multimedia Communications Research Laboratory. He is a Theme co-Leader in the LORNET NSERC Research Network. He is Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications and Guest Editor for several ACM and IEEE Transactions and Journals. Dr. El Saddik has been serving on several technical program committees of numerous IEEE and ACM events. He has been the General Chair and/or Technical Program Chair of more than 18 international conferences on Multimedia, collaborative hapto-audio-visual environments, multimedia communications and instrumentation and measurement. He is leading researcher in haptics, service-oriented architectures, collaborative environments and ambient interactive media and communications. He has authored and co-authored three books and more than 200 publications. He has received research grants and contracts totaling more than $10 million and has supervised more than 90 researchers. His research has been selected for the BEST Paper Award at the “Virtual Concepts 2006” and “IEEE COPS 2007”. Dr. El Saddik is an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer.
